Plantra® 8-inch Rigid Mesh Tubes protect shrubs and conifer trees during their critical first seasons. Engineered for growth, these tubes provide ample volume for narrow-form plants and maximize airflow while keeping stock safe from deer and rabbit browse.
Plantra 8-inch Diameter Rigid Mesh Tube Protector - 60 ft Roll (Cut to Desired Height)
Keeping seedlings, shrubs and garden plants safe from animals with a mesh protector just got better! Plantra's 8-inch diameter rigid mesh tube protectors screen out browsing animals that can kill your seedlings and garden plants. Engineered from rugged, UV resistant polymers, Plantra's rigid mesh gets the job done in the field, in the yard and in the garden. Say good-bye to chicken-wire and other metal cages that are both expensive to make and even more expensive to buy. Say hello to fast, safe, seedling and plant protection that goes on easy and lasts until your plants are well on their way. Larger mesh design allows branching through sides but keeps terminal leader safe, straight and growing fast.
Important Note on Sizing: This product is a pre-formed tube (fixed 8-inch diameter) that is flattened and rolled up for shipping. You do not form the diameter yourself. How to use: Simply unroll and cut the mesh to the height of protection you need. (Example: Cut 4 feet off the roll to create a single 4-foot tall tube).
8in (200mm) Open Diameter
Plantra Rigid Mesh Tubes work well with evergreen and deciduous tree and shrub seedlings, as well as garden plants. Most trees grow best in full sun. Planted in the shade of larger trees, most species languish for years, if they survive at all, while they wait for the trees above them to be removed. The mesh lets in full light and air, but it doesn’t change how much sun your plant needs. Check with your local nursery or extension office to match your species to the site conditions it needs to thrive.
Pro Tip: Clear the planting spot of weeds before planting. Doing so gives your seedlings the best chance to capture sunlight, moisture and soil nutrients.
You will need sturdy scissors and a tape measure. Cut straight across at the height you need. This 60 ft roll makes twelve 5 ft tubes or thirty 2 ft tubes.
For deer browse and buck antler rub, use 5–6 ft tubes. On sites with heavy snow or on a hillside, use 6 ft tubes.
NOTE: 8 inch diameter rigid mesh needs one support stake.
Which stake: We recommend Plantra Trunk Builder® Reinforced Fiberglass Stakes, and strongly recommend them for wildland plantings where tubes stay on for 4–5 years or more. For gardens and other short-term uses, other stakes may be used.
HINT: When using Plantra Twist-Lock® Ties, bend 3–4 inches of one end into a hook (see figure 7). From outside the tube, hook it through the mesh on one side of the stake, around the stake and back out the other side. Cross the ends, pull the stake snug and twist 3 times.
