Ensuring High Value Hardwoods For The Future
This is where it all started… in the UK… with a question: How do you protect an oak seedling until it grows above the deer browse line?
In 1979 Graham Tuley came up with the answer: Put a 4ft or 5ft translucent plastic tube over the seedling, providing a “safe channel” in which to grow past the level of animal browse. “Tuley Tubes” were born.
But Graham Tuley accomplished a lot more than creating a means of deer browse protection. Plastic treeshelters – called tree tubes, tree protectors, and plant growth tubes depending on where you are – also provide benefits Tuley never intended:
• Reduced moisture stress – to increase survival rates and keep seedlings growing more actively more of the time
• Marking seedling location for easier weed control and management
• Shielding seedlings from herbicide spray for fast and effective weed control.
Tuley Tubes have come a long way since they were introduced to the USA in 1988, and Plantra’s design team has been involved since the beginning… taking a great idea and adapting it to North America’s more varied and extreme climates. Our innovations include
• Large diameter, for balanced root/shoot ratio
• Peach color for optimal photosynthesis
• Ventilation, for CO2 exchange and proper hardening for winter
It’s more difficult than ever to successfully regenerate our high value hardwoods: Red oak, white oak, black walnut, black cherry, sugar maple and more.
And success has never been more important.
If you have never tried treeshelters, don’t let another growing season go by. Put Plantra Treeshelters to the test.
If you tried treeshelters years ago, give Plantra a try. You won’t believe how far treeshelters have come.
