Question: How many seasons will these treeshelters last before they breakdown due to the elements?
Answer: We stabilize our tree tubes to last 10 years in eastern forests. We have discovered through 20 years of experience that the tube needs to stay in place for around 10 years or until the trunk is about 3 inches in diameter. The tube prevents deer browsing while the seedling is short. When the top of the tree is above where deer can browse, the role of the tube changes to supporting the tree and protecting the trunk against buck rub. It can take 10 years or longer before the trunk is big enough that it will not fit between the antler tines.
